BOTOX® Cosmetic FAQs
In Denver, BOTOX® Cosmetic remains one of the most popular nonsurgical cosmetic treatments available to patients today. In the length of a lunch break or less, you can take steps to temporarily treat the appearance of dynamic wrinkles.*
The most commonly asked questions regarding treatments of BOTOX® from our Denver clinic are listed below. If you have any concerns which are not addressed here, please contact us to request a consultation with Dr. Campanile to learn more.
Q: Am I a Candidate?
A: If you’ve recently started having concerns about visible wrinkles and other treatments no longer seem to be keeping age at bay, BOTOX® Cosmetic may be a good option for you. BOTOX® is sometimes used for other conditions, such as to stop excessive sweating, or help relieve migraine headaches.
Q: How Does BOTOX® Work?
A: BOTOX® Cosmetic is a special toxin that temporarily paralyzes the muscles.* The muscles in our faces form habitual movements. As these movements continue into our older years, the skin and muscles become less capable of bouncing back from these movements. Muscles and skin both become looser and slacken with age. As a result, wrinkles form in regions of frequent facial expression, such as in the forehead and around the eyes.
In short, BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are used to temporarily stop the movement of the facial muscles whose contractions are deepening existing wrinkles.*
Q: What Happens during the Procedure?
A: First, Dr. Campanile will determine which muscle groups need to be injected. There may be only one or two injections or there may be several, depending on your personal goals. After the injection site is chosen, a topical anesthetic may be applied. The BOTOX® is injected directly into the targeted area.
Q: What Is the Recovery Like?
A: One of the best things about BOTOX® Cosmetic is that there is virtually no recovery period.* The entire process usually takes only a few minutes from start to finish, depending on the number of injections needed.* Following your treatment, most people go right back to their normal activities.* Dr. Campanile does recommend that you remain upright for the following few hours, and that you not rub or massage your face at the injection sites; it’s important that the BOTOX® remain at the site of injection to treat the desired muscle groups and not migrate elsewhere. Some patients may experience temporary redness or irritation at the injection site, which typically dissipates rapidly.*
Q: When Will I See Results?
Although individual experiences vary, most patients see results within just a few days of treatment.*
Q: How Long Does the Treatment Last?
The results of BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are temporary, and the length of time BOTOX® remains effective varies from patient to patient. On average, you can expect your new look to last at minimum for several weeks, and usually for several months.* The effects of BOTOX® wear off slowly as your face returns to its pre-treatment appearance.* Many of our patients schedule ongoing follow-up sessions at regular intervals.
