What Is BOTOX®?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is an injectable wrinkle treatment that can be used in multiple areas of the face to soften wrinkles and lines. After treatment, skin in the treated area begins to smooth out over a few days, creating a naturally refreshed and more youthful appearance.
Where Is BOTOX® Best Used?
One of the most popular treatment spots is the area between the eyebrows, where prominent frown lines may appear as one of the first signs of aging. BOTOX® also can treat the lines and furrows that run horizontally across the forehead. Crow’s feet around the outside of the eyes are another area where BOTOX® is commonly used with great success.
How Does It Work?
BOTOX® Cosmetic works by relaxing facial muscles, which over time have created visible wrinkles through repeated contractions. Once the muscles are relaxed, the wrinkles fade away as well. About 3-4 months after treatment, the results from BOTOX® injections wear off and your skin will return to its pre-treatment state unless you have a touch-up treatment.
What Should I Expect?
The injection itself takes just moments to perform. Treatment sites are cleaned, and a topical anesthetic or ice may be applied to improve comfort. A fine needle is used to administer the BOTOX®. Patients are able to resume their normal daily activities right away. Because wrinkle-smoothing results last only a few months, many patients who receive BOTOX® treatments will schedule regular visits to maintain their newly refreshed appearance.
How Do I Know If BOTOX® Is Right for Me?
BOTOX® Cosmetic can help you look as young as you feel. It is a good choice for women and men with hectic schedules who want a quick and easy way to take a few years off of their appearance. While BOTOX® treats wrinkles in a range of areas, certain types of wrinkles do not respond to BOTOX® treatments. Wrinkles on the cheeks and around the mouth, often caused by loss of skin volume, should be treated with an injectable filler such as JUVÉDERM® or Restylane®.
