Recent 2011 stats released by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reveal some interesting trends in the world of cosmetic surgery. After being on top for three years, breast augmentation has fallen to number two on the list of most popular cosmetic surgeries last year. Liposuction is once again the most popular procedure, returning to the number one spot after a three-year absence.
Liposuction Makes a Comeback
Liposuction has always been a popular procedure in the United States. The procedure’s continued popularity stems from the fact that it remains the only way to contour certain areas of the body that do not respond to diet and exercise.* With liposuction, even if your body wants to hold onto fat in areas like “love handles” and “saddlebags” due to genetics, you can achieve a smooth and shapely body contour.*
I’ve seen growing interest in liposuction in Denver, reflecting the nationwide trend.
BOTOX® Use Continues to Dominate
BOTOX® has continued to be the most popular non-surgical procedure available. With more than 2.6 million procedures last year, it outnumbers the next most popular procedure by more than two to one. It isn’t all that surprising to me, considering the level of interest in BOTOX® at our med spa. I believe the number of BOTOX® treatments will continue to rise, since it is an FDA-approved treatment that is affordable and easy to administer.
So what will 2012 look like? Only time will tell. If our office is any indication, liposuction and breast augmentation will continue to be top surgical choices, with BOTOX® cosmetic leading the way in the non-surgical realm.
