Many women considering breast augmentation who visit my practice have concerns that their breasts will look too fake following surgery. While it’s true that some women still want a look that’s more dramatic, most of my patients want an end result that looks like them, only better.
Choosing the Right Implants
Making the right choices about your implants is a big part of ensuring a final result you feel happy with.* Implant size is important, of course, but also learn your options as far as profile and placement, and how these factors can affect your breasts.
A high profile breast implant gives more fullness at the top of your breast, also called the upper pole.* This gives breasts more prominence than they would have naturally on their own.* Medium or low profile implants generally will lead to a subtler result.*
Implants also come in a round shape, or a teardrop shape that more closely mimics the contours of a typical breast. If your goal is a very natural look, teardrop implants with a medium or low profile may be a good choice.*
The ideal breast augmentation results are those that bring out the best in a woman’s entire body, not just give them larger breasts.* Your implants should be complementary to your frame, not overwhelming. If your goal is a flattering enhancement, be sure to find a plastic surgeon who will respect those wishes, and customize your procedure accordingly.*
