When women come to my office in Denver for a breast augmentation consultation, there is one main question which every woman has to ask: saline or silicone? And with good reason. You want to look great, of course, but you also want to feel positive about your choice. Here are a few considerations to think about when you’re deciding between saline and silicone gel implants.
Look
The way implants look is very important. Although either type of implant can look fantastic, women who are very slender and who don’t have much natural breast tissue may prefer silicone. Why? Because saline implants can sometimes show visible rippling. This is more apparent in women whose skin is stretched tighter over implants, the way it would be in smaller-breasted women.
Feel
Another primary consideration is how the implants will feel. Will they feel like natural breast tissue? Will the implant itself be palpable? Although some women (and their partners) swear by silicone gel for feeling the most real, I have performed many saline breast augmentations in Denver that have received nothing but compliments.
Budget
Though it should never be a deciding factor, budget should definitely be a consideration when choosing your implant type. In this case, saline is the less expensive option for augmentation.
Making Your Choice
Deciding which kind of implant is right for you is a very complex decision in which a lot of factors have to be weighed. Ultimately, you’ll have to make the choice that you’re comfortable with, although I’m happy to help you through the decision-making process in any way I can.
