Just because I’m a plastic surgeon here in Denver doesn’t make it effortless for me to stay in shape and eat healthfully. Like many of you, I work hard to keep a close eye on fitness and health. Here are a few tips that have helped me over the years.
Eating Right
The first step toward slimming down is addressing your diet: garbage in, garbage out, as the saying goes. No one can look their best if they’re not giving their body the fuels it needs to function at its optimum. A common misconception is that eating right means a complicated diet, but it’s actually simpler than that: eat fewer calories than your body burns if you want to lose weight. I stay away from foods that aren’t good for me: fast food, too much sugar, fatty or deep-fried dishes. And, I try to eat more of the things I know are good for me: lean proteins, whole grains, and lots of fruits and vegetables.
Plan It Out
Another thing I’ve found very helpful in eating right is to plan out my meals. Poor dietary decisions are usually made due to time constraints. If you have a fridge at work, bring in leftovers from dinner or a smoothie made fresh in the morning as an afternoon pick-me-up.
Staying Active
There’s a lot of emphasis on having an exercise routine, but it’s easy to get bored if you are doing the same type of exercise every day. Instead of hitting the same old treadmill, try jogging or biking outside if it’s nice. I adjust my exercise to my mood so it never gets boring. The main thing is to stay active instead of sedentary.
Everything in Moderation
The other thing I’ve learned about keeping in shape over the years is that it’s a lot easier to have a few bites of chocolate cake rather than try going months without any sweets. In fact, studies show that diet plans that include treats have greater success rates.
Making Other Changes
Despite all the attempts to stay healthy, keep active and eat right, you may still have those trouble spots that won’t go away. That’s one reason I strongly believe in the benefits of liposuction.* Lipo can remove stubborn fat deposits that simply don’t respond to any form of diet or exercise.* If you are healthy and take care of yourself, then it should show. Treat yourself to liposuction at our Denver office, and your body will soon reflect your healthy lifestyle.*
