Breast reduction surgery is very common among women who have an excessive amount of breast tissue. Not only does it cause a significant amount of sagging but, it can also be painful, causing upper back and neck pain. As a result, many of these women seek the expert advice of board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Francesco Campanile, when looking to surgical intervention to decrease their breast size. 

This particular patient came to Dr. Campanile for just that reason- she was tired of the nuisance of her excess breast tissue. During her private consultation with Dr. Campanile, they went over the possible options regarding her treatment plan. After a very comprehensive discussion, this patient decided she would like to move forward with breast reduction surgery. 

During this patient's breast reduction surgery, breast tissue was excised and the nipple aerola complex was lifted to above her inframammary fold. Dr. Campanile did this using a key hole pattern, which was determined based on the amount of breast tissue expected to be removed and the distance the nipple areola complex had to be elevated. This particular technique leaves a scar around the areola, as well as a vertical scar and an anchor scar in the inframammary fold. Many patients are concerned with the visibility of these scars but,  Dr. Campanile performs his own stitching (unlike other surgeons who use a stitching assistant) and so patients can be assured they have an expert plastics closure. Additionally, if an individual forms poor scars naturally due to genetic pre-disposition or skin type, there are many methods to decrease the appearance of these scars post-operatively. These options include products that contain hydroquinone, which contains a bleaching agent to lighten scars, as well as silicone gel strips if scars become raised. 

As you can see in this patient's after photo, the appearance of her breasts were greatly improved. Not only was breast tissue removed to create breasts that were more proportional to the patient's body but, the nipple areola complex was elevated to a more youthful position. This patient was thrilled with her results and is very happy with the way her breasts now appear.
