Many of the patients who visit our offices have already done extensive research about plastic surgery in Denver and have narrowed down their choices to two or three different plastic surgeons. When those patients come through my door, many still have questions regarding procedures as a whole. For those patients, I have several excellent books I’d like to suggest.
General Overview
Look into “Secrets of a Beverly Hills Cosmetic Surgeon: The Expert’s Guide to Safe, Successful Surgery,” by Dr. Robert Kotler. Dr. Kotler’s book presents advice on everything from how to choose a top specialist and which procedure to select to making sure the facilities are safe and what you can do to minimize potential complications. Over a dozen procedures are addressed individually within the book, including discussion of both operating and recovery times.
The other book I’d recommend is from Yale University Press. Written by physician Arthur W. Perry, “Straight Talk about Cosmetic Surgery” separates plastic surgery hype from reality, and can help patients develop more honest expectations regarding their procedures. This book includes more than a hundred illustrations for further education, and includes discussions on how to get the best results.
Emotional Impact
Transforming your appearance can have a profound emotional impact. “Fabulous Faces: From Motivation to Transformation Through Facial Plastic Surgery,” by Dr. Peter A. Adamson, provides a rare glimpse into the emotional journey of plastic surgery, which can often begin months or even years before the patient reaches the operating room. This book offers conversational case studies from patients whose lives have been transformed along with their looks.
For Specific Procedures
“Cosmetic Breast Surgery: A Complete Guide to Making the Right Decision – from A to Double D,” by Dr. Robert M. Freund, addresses concerns related specifically to breast surgery. The decision to move forward with a breast enhancement of any kind requires careful consideration, and this book addresses some of the questions related specifically to these procedures.
In the same vein, “The Little Book of Lipo: Everything You Need to Know About Liposuction but Didn’t Know to Ask” focuses solely on the pros and cons of lipo. In it, author Dr. Carol Martin, provides tips on preparing for getting lipo, checking surgeon credentials, and preparing your home to ensure an uncomplicated recovery.
Proceeding with Confidence
During your initial consultation, we’ll answer any questions you have. However, for those who want to learn more before proceeding with any cosmetic surgery at our Denver offices, the books listed above can be a great start.
