Your last pregnancy is behind you, or will be soon, and now you are looking to reclaim your body. One way to do so is with a mommy makeover. But before you get too far down the rabbit hole of planning your procedure, there are a few things you should know.
Here are a few quick tips to guide you on what to expect before getting a mommy makeover.
Remember: A Mommy Makeover Is What You Make It
While the term mommy makeover is used a lot, it doesn’t refer to a specific procedure. Rather, it is a combination of procedures of your choosing meant to address body changes after pregnancy. Liposuction, tummy tuck and breast lift surgery are all common, but you are free to choose any procedures that interest you.
You Need at Least Two Weeks to Recover
While the exact length of your mommy makeover recovery period will vary based on the procedures you choose and how you heal, expect to take at least two weeks off from work and other activities to recover. During this time, there will be discomfort, swelling and bruising. You will be unable to move much and won’t be allowed to lift more than about 6 pounds.
Think Beyond Work
While time off from your job matters, you need time off from all responsibilities, including childcare and housekeeping. Be sure to arrange for help as needed and get everyone in the family on board with your recovery period.
Be Patient When Looking for Results
Mommy makeover results aren’t instant. In fact, it can be months before swelling goes down enough for you to truly evaluate the changes in yourself. Stay away from mirrors during the initial stages, and once you are a few weeks out, keep in mind that your body is still healing.
