In addition to your choice of surgeon, how you care for your Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) results can have a significant impact on how happy you are with your new look. Dr. Campanile performs a BBL by using liposuction to remove fat from other areas of the body, then processing it and injecting it into the buttocks to enhance their shape and volume.
Here’s what you can generally expect during a BBL recovery period:
Right after Your Procedure
- You’ll likely experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort at the liposuction sites and in the buttocks. Pain medication prescribed by Dr. Campanile can help manage discomfort.
- Keep the incision sites clean and dry. We will provide specific instructions on wound care.
- Showering is permitted after a few days, but avoid hot baths or swimming until cleared by Dr. Campanile.
- You may need to wear compression garments on the liposuction areas and/or a special compression garment for the buttocks to help reduce swelling and shape retention.
- Avoid sitting or lying directly on your buttocks for at least the first 2 weeks to protect the newly transferred fat cells.
- We will recommend sleeping on your stomach or side to avoid pressure on the buttocks.
- You should avoid strenuous activities, including exercise, for several weeks to allow the fat grafts to settle and heal.
- If you notice any unusual symptoms, such as excessive swelling, persistent pain, or signs of infection, contact us promptly.
Follow-Up Visit
You’ll have a follow-up appointment with Dr. Campanile so we can monitor your healing progress and remove any sutures. This is a great time to check in on how well you are doing and address any concerns you may have. You will still have some swelling and bruising, which will likely persist for several more weeks. Wearing your compression garments as we have directed can help reduce swelling.
Longer Term
- You should be able to add back in more strenuous activities, heavy lifting, and vigorous exercise about 6 to 8 weeks after your BBL. We encourage patients to gradually ease back into these activities to avoid injury.
- Continue to follow a healthy, balanced diet to support healing and maintain your new look. Adequate hydration is essential for recovery. Avoid alcohol and nicotine, as they can interfere with the healing process.
- Results of a BBL can take several months to fully settle. Be patient, and feel free to contact us with any concerns.
