For our patients in Denver, the ease and comfort of the healing process after a tummy tuck can be largely dependent upon how well you prepare beforehand.* Although you can only do so much to influence how fast your body heals, there are definitely steps you can take to make sure that your recovery is as smooth as possible.*
Planning before Surgery
If you know you’re going in for major surgery, doing a little work ahead of time can help ensure that you’re able to rest and take it easy after your procedure. That way, when you’re released, you’ll have a few days to just rest and heal without worrying about taking care of many smaller things.
Run your errands, cook and freeze some meals (or set take-out menus by your phone), and take care of any necessities for the upcoming week before coming in for surgery.
You may also want to set up your recovery area. Keep those take-out menus, the TV remote, a stack of books or any other immediate needs you might have close at hand. This will prevent unnecessary exertion on your part. After your procedure, keep some ice on hand to help reduce swelling.* You’ll have to wear a compression garment initially, which can also help cut down on post-op discomfort.8
Proper healing is a crucial part of ensuring optimum results following your tummy tuck.* Following these tips should make the whole process as painless and stress-free as possible.*
