When looking at before and after tummy tuck photos, it can often be easy to tell that the “after” photo looks better, but many people are unsure about why. Here, we break down what is going on in three examples of real C.L.A.S.S.® tummy tuck cases to help you better understand how Dr. Campanile may be able to help you achieve your own body contouring goals.
Case 1: Waist Definition

In the before photo, this patient has loose, stretched skin hanging over her lower abdomen, and her waist and hips run in almost a straight line with no curve in between. In the after photo, that overhanging skin is gone, her belly button sits higher and looks rounder and more natural, and her waist now tucks in noticeably above her hips, giving her body an hourglass shape it did not have before.
In addition to tightening loose skin on the surface, Dr. Campanile’s C.L.A.S.S. tummy tuck can also address underlying weakened or separated abdominal muscles to further tone and tighten the abdominal area.
Case 2: Tummy Tuck Side View

This case is shown from the side, which is often the most honest angle for judging a tummy tuck because it is where a bulge is hardest to hide. In the “before” photo, her stomach rounds forward well past the line of her chest, and the skin sags below her waistband. In the “after” photo, her torso runs in a nearly straight line from her ribs down to her hip, with no forward curve at all.
That flat side profile is a good example of why muscle repair matters as much as skin removal. If only the skin were removed and the stretched abdominal muscles were left alone, the stomach would still push forward under the skin, just with a tighter covering over it, and the side view would still show some curve. Here, the muscles were tightened first, which pulled the abdominal wall back to where it used to sit, and only then was the extra skin trimmed to fit the new, flatter shape.
Case 3: A Dramatic Transformation

This is the most dramatic change of the three, and it is also a good example of why so many people are turning to a tummy tuck after losing a significant amount of weight. In the “before” photo, the skin hangs down far enough to cover her underwear line entirely, and her belly button is barely visible underneath the fold. Losing a large amount of weight quickly does not just leave loose skin behind, it also tends to leave uneven pockets of fat around the flanks and waist that diet and exercise alone cannot get rid of. This is where the sculpting and shaping side of the C.L.A.S.S. technique comes in. Dr. Campanile uses liposuction to smooth the flanks and waist, so the stubborn fat underneath is reduced at the same time the skin is removed and tightened.
That combination is what gives this result its shape. In the “after” photo, you can see that her waist narrows smoothly from her ribs down to her hips, and her belly button and waistband are visible again in a natural position. Sculpting the fat and shaping the skin in the same surgery is what turns a good result into a dramatic one.
