Silicone gel implants are definitely the most popular option for breast augmentation at our practice. Yet, there are a lot of advantages to saline implants, and the results can be just as impressive.* The trick to ensuring a beautiful, natural look is to understand what types of candidates will get the best outcome from using saline implants in their plastic surgery.*
Getting Great Results
The first place to start in determining whether you’re the right type of candidate for saline implants is in looking at the most common complaints about them, primarily the ripple effect and their firmer texture. Saline implants have to be filled to a certain amount in order to ensure that the implant edges are not visible after placement. This can cause a feeling of firmness in the breast, especially compared to the softer texture of silicone gel.
Rippling, visible implant edges and implant palpability are all issues that are seen primarily when using saline implants in women who have little natural breast tissue. Yet, when saline implants are used in women who already have at least average-sized breasts, either to add additional volume or improve symmetry, both rippling and textural issues are often resolved.* Saline implants also carry the added benefit of being able to tell immediately if there’s a leak or deflation in your implant, and can be adjusted up or down in size fairly easily. Saline implants also require a smaller incision, since they can be filled after getting placed.
The trick to getting great results with saline implants really comes down to choosing the right surgeon, and then making sure you’re the right type of candidate.*
