Your KYBELLA Treatment
Kybella is FDA approved to treat excess fat under the chin. Other areas of the body with excess fat pockets, such as the jowls, elbows, knees, and bra line may benefit from this treatment as well.
During your KYBELLA treatment, a trained injector will administer a series of injections under your chin or in an otherwise designated treatment area. How many injections you get will depend upon your unique anatomy and how much fat there is to be targeted. A typical KYBELLA treatment session lasts just 15 to 20 minutes.
Multiple KYBELLA sessions are recommended, and are spaced 1 month apart. Most people begin to see results within 2 to 4 treatments. No more than 6 treatments should be necessary for most people. KYBELLA works by dissolving the fat cells in the targeted area. Once fat cells have been destroyed, they can no longer store fat.
The Best Results
If your appearance goals are more comprehensive than what KYBELLA can accomplish, Dr. Campanile may recommend liposuction instead.
Dr. Campanile believes in customizing each treatment according to your individual needs, and will work closely with you to determine a plan that can best help you to achieve your aesthetic goals.

KYBELLA FAQs
How does KYBELLA work?
KYBELLA relies on its active ingredient, deoxycholic acid, to destroy the fat cells in the targeted area. This prevents them from being able to accumulate fat, allowing the treatment site to become smaller over time.

Is deoxycholic acid safe?
Yes, it is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that is meant to help break down fats and allow the body to absorb them. KYBELLA has been widely tested and has FDA approval.

How many KYBELLA treatments are needed?
This varies between individuals. Most people will need at least 3 treatments to achieve their desired results, though some require as many as 6. No matter how many sessions you need, they should be spaced at least one month apart.

Does KYBELLA hurt?
Prior to your injections, your skin will be prepped and numbed. This should reduce the discomfort you experience. With that said, pain and soreness are some of the most common after-effects of KYBELLA treatment. Keep in mind that when compared to liposuction, the pain is typically much less, meaning it is the most comfortable treatment for many areas.

How much does KYBELLA cost?
Like other injectable treatments, the price for KYBELLA will fluctuate based on how much you need. The larger the surface area being treated, the more volume of product needed. Additionally, your number of sessions will also impact the cost. To get an accurate price, schedule a consultation.

Are there side effects with KYBELLA?
All cosmetic treatments have potential side effects, KYBELLA included. The most common side effect, which essentially all patients experience, is swelling at the treatment site. This tends to be most prominent in the first three days after the procedure. You may also notice that the skin is red, feels extra firm and shows signs of bruising.
Other side effects you might experience include:
- Difficulty swallowing if you use KYBELLA to treat a double chin.
- A sensation of pins and needles in the neck.
- Itching due to swelling.
There are also more severe side effects, but these are rarely experienced.

Who shouldn't get treatment with KYBELLA?
Generally speaking, if any of the following describe you, you should either avoid using KYBELLA or wait for a more suitable time:
- You are pregnant or nursing.
- You have neck or throat conditions.
- You have a nerve injury at the treatment site.
- You have an active infection.
- You are on blood thinners.
- You recently had surgery near the treatment site or at all.

How is KYBELLA different from liposuction?
Generally speaking, areas that can be treated with KYBELLA can also be treated with liposuction, leading many people to wonder what the difference is. Here are a few things that set these two procedures apart:
- Liposuction is a surgical procedure with a notable recovery period. KYBELLA is non-surgical and requires minimal recovery.
- With liposuction, fat cells are removed from the body. KYBELLA destroys the cells, preventing them from holding fat.
- Liposuction typically requires general anesthesia while KYBELLA uses a topical numbing cream.
