In my practice in Denver, liposuction is one of the most popular surgical procedures. Even though it is a procedure that yields positive results, you still have to plan for a few days of recovery.* The following liposuction preparation tips should help make your recovery time relatively comfortable.*
At Least a Month Prior to Surgery
Do your research. Make sure you know what to expect before, during and after surgery, and familiarize yourself with the different techniques involved in liposuction. Discuss your options with your surgeon. You will also want to disclose any medical conditions you have, along what medications and supplements you are currently taking.
Several Weeks Prior to Surgery
Arrange for someone to pick you up from the hospital. If you live alone, you will also need someone to help you around your house for a few days.
Several Days Prior to Surgery
Stock up your refrigerator with healthy foods that you can access easily, or ask a spouse, roommate or loved one to plan to be available to provide meals and basic care. Also, find a good book or build up your Netflix queue so you’ll have something to do for the first few days after surgery. It is also advisable to avoid shaving near the surgery site at least 48 hours prior to surgery, since little nicks and ingrown hairs might lead to an infection after the procedure.
