For many women and men, liposuction may seem like the easiest way to achieve a slimmer figure. Many people considering this procedure struggle to maintain a healthy diet and can’t seem to find the time for regular exercise.
I understand how life can get in the way sometimes, but what I emphasize most to my Denver patients considering liposuction is that this procedure is not a weight loss tool but instead is about achieving better body contours.* Liposuction is never an alternative to eating well and exercising – it’s an addition to these healthy lifestyle choices.
Exercise and Healthy Eating
Liposuction can be great for removal of extra fat that persists,* but a responsible diet and regular exercise are key components of maintaining an attractive body shape. Here are a few tips for both before and after your liposuction procedure. Of course, there are hundreds of other sources to get tips on eating healthy and exercising smartly – I encourage you to find options that work best for you.
A Few Tips
- Eat several smaller meals a day, instead of the usual three. This helps stave off the intense hunger that can cause people to overindulge at each meal.
- Reduce portion size. Since we were children, we’ve been taught to clean our plates. We’re adults now, but still many feel compelled to eat everything served to them. If that describes you, control how much you eat by taking less to begin with.
- Replace empty calories. It’s well-known that soft drinks are high in calories, but so are juices, energy drinks and most other fluids we ingest. When possible, stick with water, which will quench your thirst faster and has no calories.
- Try different exercises at different times of day. It can be easier to get in the habit of exercising if you stumble upon a good time of day and enjoyable activity.
Just keep experimenting until you find something that works for you.
