Injectable Fillers Among Most Popular Cosmetic Procedures for Men
Women may be the demographic that comes to mind as the most likely to opt for cosmetic procedures, but the number of men choosing to get cosmetic work done has increased dramatically in recent years. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery recently released their annual statistics report, which shows that the number of men having cosmetic procedures has increased by 325 percent since 1997. Although women comprise over 90 percent of cosmetic procedure patients, the increase in men having these procedures is quite staggering. The report reveals that the top five cosmetic surgical procedures among men are liposuction, nose surgery, eyelid surgery, male breast reduction and facelift. With regard to nonsurgical cosmetic procedures, injectables such as JUVÉDERM® and BOTOX® remain the most popular treatments among men and women alike.
Injectable Fillers Offer a Nonsurgical Alternative to Rhinoplasty
Nose surgery remains a very popular cosmetic procedure, but a nonsurgical alternative to improving the appearance of the nose is gaining popularity. In this new procedure, doctors are using injectable fillers such as JUVÉDERM® to subtly change the nose’s appearance and correct small imperfections or minor asymmetry.* Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Williams recently posted a time-lapse video of her nonsurgical nose job on Instagram. Williams raved about her results in her post. Since injectable fillers are temporary, the results of a nonsurgical nose job are as well. However, this procedure can be ideal for some people who are looking for a temporary change, are apprehensive about approaching nose surgery or would like to “try on” their new nose before opting for surgical solution.
The Use of Injectable Fillers Was on the Rise in 2015
The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery released its annual statistics for 2015 recently, and it indicates that the use of injectables continues to rise. The use of injectables containing Botulinum Toxin (marketed as BOTOX®, Dysport® and Xeomin®) and Hyaluronic Acid (JUVÉDERM®, Voluma®, Perlane®, Restylane® and Belotero®) saw an increase of 21 percent in 2015 with more men using these products than in years past. Although surgical cosmetic procedures continue to grow in popularity, the ASAPS says that the significant growth of injectables supports the recent trend toward subtle enhancements versus dramatic transformations. Additionally, this rise in the use of injectables can be attributed to the development of new variations and applications for these products, including restoring volume to the cheekbone area and plumping up the back of the hands to reverse the signs of aging.*
JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA™ XC Rejuvenates Cheeks to Combat Aging
Injectable fillers have been popular for years, but until recently there was no FDA-approved injectable filler to specifically target the cheek area. JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA™ XC is FDA-approved to add volume to the cheekbones and change the contours of the face in a way that hasn’t been possible before without surgery.* An added benefit to VOLUMA™ is that it can last 18 months, and sometimes as long as 24.* Because it provides such natural-looking volume, VOLUMA™ can also be used to combat age-related volume loss in other parts of the face such as the temples, chin and jawline.*
