C.L.A.S.S.® Tummy Tuck FAQs
Changes in the body over time, especially in the abdominal region, may call for the unique C.L.A.S.S.® drain-free tummy tuck available exclusively from Denver plastic surgeon Dr. Frank Campanile. Dr. Campanile has pioneered this new procedure, combining traditional abdominoplasty with liposuction, in order to achieve finer sculpting capabilities along with a shorter healing time.* Many of our patients have questions about this advanced procedure. To help you better understand how it works, we’ve prepared answers for some of the most commonly asked questions.

Q: Am I a Candidate?
A: Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck surgery) can tighten abdominal muscles and excess skin that has become loose or sagging.* This may happen naturally due to aging, but may look more pronounced in women who have had children, or in either men or women who have lost a lot of weight. If you’re self-conscious about the appearance of your abdominal area, you may be a good candidate for the C.L.A.S.S.® procedure.
Q: What Happens during Surgery?
A: A standard tummy tuck removes loose folds of skin and fat from the targeted area while tightening stretched abdominal muscles.* The C.L.A.S.S.® tummy tuck involves a new method of performing abdominoplasty. First, liposuction of the abdomen and flanks will be utilized in order to minimize the amount of surgical intervention needed, to address areas that are harder to reach and to improve overall final contour.* Second, an incision is made across the abdomen, exposing the abdominal wall. Through the incision, Dr. Campanile will pull together the slackened abdominal muscles and stitch them in place. Any excess skin and fat will be removed, and the rest will be re-draped over the repaired framework of tightened musculature*. Finally, the incision will be sutured and you’ll be taken to the recovery area.
Q: What Is the Recovery Like?
A: Since the C.L.A.S.S.® tummy tuck technique ensures that the blood flow to the area is less compromised during the surgery itself, recovery following a C.L.A.S.S.® tummy tuck is often faster and easier than with a traditional abdominoplasty.* In the overwhelming number of cases, the use of surgical drains is not necessary.* Most patients will be sore at first and then be able to resume light activities within a few weeks.* A compression garment is worn initially to help hold everything in place, as well as protect the area from being jostled around too much.*
Q: Will My Tummy Tuck Scar Be Visible?
A: Although performing a tummy tuck without a scar is not possible, Dr. Campanile does place the incision low enough that it can be hidden by your clothing.* Over time, the appearance of the scar should typically fade enough to become fairly inconspicuous.*
Q: What about Pregnancies and/or Weight Gain Following a Tummy Tuck?
A: Abdominoplasty is advised for women who have completed their childbearing stage, as future pregnancies could stretch out the abdominal skin and muscles once again. Similarly, the ideal candidate should already have reached a stable weight prior to the procedure in order to minimize any excess stretching of the abdominal skin after the abdominoplasty.
Q: How Long Will My Tummy Tuck Results Last?
A: Additional pregnancies and/or weight gain can negatively impact the aesthetic results of your tummy tuck. Although age and time will continue having an effect on the body, a tummy tuck will set the clock back a few years so you can keep a trim, toned silhouette longer than nature would normally allow.*
