Did you know that the proper pre-surgery preparation can significantly reduce your liposuction recovery time?* In my office in Denver, lipo consultations always include detailed instructions about what the patient must do in order to facilitate healing after surgery.* Here are some of the tips I offer.
Stop Smoking
It is always best to quit smoking completely, but make certain that you stop smoking for at least one month prior to surgery and for one month after. It is also unadvisable to use nicotine patches as a substitute, since their use can inhibit blood flow to the areas which are healing.
Make Healthy Food Choices
Make sure you drink lots of water, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and stay away from alcoholic beverages. After surgery, your diet should include lean proteins. Try to avoid sodium, since it can cause swelling of the surgery site to increase.
Avoid Certain Medicines and Supplements
Two weeks prior to the procedure, cease taking Ibuprofen and aspirin, which can affect blood platelets and can cause significant bruising. I will review any other medications and supplements you are taking and let you know what adjustments need to be made to your intake schedule both before and after surgery. Follow this protocol closely to minimize the side effects of drug interactions.
