Ideal Candidates for a Mommy Makeover
Motherhood impacts the body in a number of ways. Whether you’re a new mom or your children have already left home, as long as you have completed your family and finished breastfeeding, you may be at the right stage of your life for a mommy makeover. There is no single “best” age to get a mommy makeover.
Generally speaking, the ideal candidate for a mommy makeover will:
- Have finished having children and breastfeeding.
- Be in good overall physical and mental health.
- Be at a stable weight that is close to her desired target weight.
- Not smoke, or be willing to quit for several weeks before and after surgery.
Your Personalized Consultation
Dr. Campanile will customize your mommy makeover according to your anatomy and cosmetic goals to bring out the best in your natural appearance and address the areas where motherhood has affected you the most. During your consultation, you will have the opportunity to explain your goals in detail to Dr. Campanile, as well as ask any questions you may have about your candidacy for a mommy makeover.
During this time, Dr. Campanile will also review your medical history and perform a physical evaluation to help you decide if a mommy makeover could be right for you and, if so, which procedures you would like to discuss including.
What’s Included in a Mommy Makeover?
A mommy makeover is a customized combination of procedures designed to address your individual needs and appearance concerns. Some of the most common procedures included in a mommy makeover are listed below, but it’s best to talk with plastic surgeon Dr. Campanile about including additional surgical or nonsurgical treatments to achieve your ideal outcome.
Tummy Tuck
Also known as abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck tightens abdominal muscles that may have become separated as a result of pregnancy or weight gain. Abdominoplasty also removes loose or excess stomach skin for a sleeker, firmer midsection.
Dr. Campanile recommends his exclusive drain-free tummy tuck technique called the C.L.A.S.S. tummy tuck™ to nearly all mommy makeover patients. This drainless technique offers a number of unique benefits, including a smoother, less complicated recovery, quicker healing times and a reduced risk of complications.
Liposuction
Liposuction sculpts away stubborn fat deposits that remain even with healthy diet and exercise habits, particularly throughout the abdomen, thighs and upper arms. Liposuction can also be used to reduce a double chin, shape the ankles, slim down the back or sculpt virtually anywhere else on the body.
Dr. Campanile’s exclusive C.L.A.S.S. tummy tuck (Combined Lipo-Abdominoplasty Sculpting & Shaping) as mentioned above combines abdominoplasty with liposuction, offering his Denver mommy makeover patients enhanced results.
Breast Augmentation
If your breasts have become smaller or appear deflated following pregnancy and breastfeeding, breast augmentation can add more volume for a fuller, more feminine figure. Dr. Campanile offers a wide range of breast enlargement options, including saline and silicone breast implants as well as fat transfer breast augmentation.
Breast Lift
Also known as mastopexy, a breast lift raises and reshapes sagging breasts for a more youthful look and feel. While a breast lift can achieve excellent results on its own, many women choose to combine a breast lift with breast augmentation for an added boost of volume and a curvier, perkier silhouette.
Breast Reduction
Not all women experience a loss of breast volume following childbirth. In fact, many women have the opposite problem and suffer from the physical and psychological burdens associated with overly large breasts. A breast reduction removes breast tissue and excess breast skin while lifting and reshaping the breasts for a more proportional, natural appearance.
Arm Lift
An arm lift, also called brachioplasty, is a body contouring procedure that involves removing and tightening excess skin from the upper arms to create a firmer, more toned contour. Some women find that this is a challenging area to address through diet and exercise alone, particularly following significant weight fluctuations.

Your Mommy Makeover Procedure
The length and complexity of your mommy makeover will depend on the number and type of procedures included. Generally speaking, most mommy makeover procedures take between 4 to 6 hours to complete and are performed under general anesthesia. However, if your mommy makeover includes multiple extensive procedures, Dr. Campanile may recommend staging treatments over more than one session for optimal results and safety.
Before your mommy makeover, you will have a chance to discuss your customized surgical plan with Dr. Campanile, as well as address any questions or concerns. Dr. Campanile will also give you specific instructions on preparing for surgery, including guidelines on medications, diet and post-operative care.
Dr. Campanile often begins a mommy makeover with the most complex procedure before moving onto other enhancements, although the exact order in which your mommy makeover is performed will depend on the specifics of your surgery. He takes great care to minimize scarring and promote a natural, balanced outcome.
Directly after your mommy makeover, you will be monitored as you wake up from anesthesia, and should be able to return home the same day with the support of a caregiver.
Your Mommy Makeover Recovery
Because the mommy makeover is such a varied procedure that involves a customized approach for each individual, the recovery period will vary as well. Typically, you can expect to take at least 1 to 2 weeks off work and other daily activities, followed by several weeks of gradually resuming your normal work and exercise routine.
You may be asked to wear a compression garment for several weeks after your procedure to help reduce swelling and aid in the healing process. Dr. Campanile provides his patients with detailed post-operative care instructions specific to their procedure so they know what to expect at every step along the way.
Your Mommy Makeover Results
Your mommy makeover results will develop gradually as your body heals, and the pace at which you heal and start seeing noticeable changes will depend on the specifics and complexity of your procedure. While you may notice some changes right away, swelling and bruising can camouflage these initial results. Around 3 to 6 weeks after your mommy makeover, swelling should subside considerably, revealing more definition.
By the three-month mark, these results should be even more noticeable. Most people are able to have a good idea of how their final mommy makeover results will look around 6 to 12 months after surgery.

Mommy Makeover FAQ
How much does a mommy makeover in Denver cost?
The cost of a mommy makeover in Denver can vary widely, depending on the type and number of procedures you choose to include. After your consultation, Dr. Campanile and his team will be able to provide you with a more accurate mommy makeover cost estimate based on your customized surgical plan. We are also happy to discuss patient financing options to help make your Denver mommy makeover as affordable and stress-free as possible.
Is a mommy makeover painful?
While your procedure itself will not hurt, as it is performed under general anesthesia, you can expect to experience some swelling, bruising, tenderness and mild discomfort in the days and weeks following your mommy makeover. These symptoms are typically easily managed with prescription or over-the-counter medications and should continue to improve as your body heals.
How can I tell if a mommy makeover is the right choice for me?
Any cosmetic procedure can feel like a major decision. For some patients, a mommy makeover can feel even more monumental because it’s a combination of procedures instead of only one. Dr. Campanile recommends coming in for a consultation if you have already thoroughly researched and still feel undecided. This will give you the opportunity to discuss your goals and concerns, as well as review some options for a customized approach. Keep in mind that there is no commitment that comes with a consultation, so you’re free to take as long as you like to make your final decision about moving forward.
What are the most common procedures included in a mommy makeover?
A mommy makeover is tailored for every individual patient, so there is no standard set of procedures that will work best for everyone. That said, there are several that have proven to be the most popular:
- Tummy tuck
- Liposuction
- Breast augmentation
- Breast lift
- Breast reduction
Tummy tucks are probably the most common because so many women end up with excess belly skin following pregnancy. Liposuction is included in Dr. Campanile’s drain-free tummy tuck to address stubborn pockets of subcutaneous fat, while breast enhancement procedures can address different concerns related to breast appearance. Additionally, thigh, body and arm lifts may be included as part of a mommy makeover for women who have undergone massive weight loss.
Can facial treatments be included in a mommy makeover?
Absolutely. As rewarding as expanding your family can be, everyday stress can express itself as signs of aging in the face. Nonsurgical med spa treatments are commonly used in mommy makeovers for this reason. For some, this may include facial rejuvenation treatments such as BOTOX® or injectable fillers.
Can I include nonsurgical treatments in my mommy makeover?
Yes. In addition to nonsurgical facial treatments, some women choose to include nonsurgical body contouring treatments like VelaShape™ III for improved skin tone and reduced cellulite.
What if I might want to have more children in the future? Is it still okay to get a mommy makeover now?
In general, Dr. Campanile recommends completing your family before undergoing a mommy makeover in order to ensure that there is a minimal chance of revision needed in the future if another pregnancy compromises some of the initial results. If you aren’t sure if you will become pregnant again, it’s up to you as to whether you’d like to have a mommy makeover now with the chance of future revision or wait until you’ve made your final decision.
How long do I have to wait after giving birth to have a mommy makeover?
That depends on whether you are nursing. If not breastfeeding, Dr. Campanile advises waiting at least 6 months after giving birth, because this allows for pregnancy hormones and skin elasticity to reduce to a normal level before undergoing surgery. However, if you are nursing, Dr. Campanile suggests waiting until at least a couple of months after weaning, because hormone fluctuations continue during this time. Bear in mind that there is no hurry, as you can wait years after having children before getting a mommy makeover.
