For many Denver women considering breast augmentation, the preference is often for using silicone implants rather than saline. Looking at the national statistics, silicone implants seem to be the more popular choice for plastic surgeons across the rest of the country as well. What is it about silicone implants that women just seem to love?
Getting Real Results
Either type of breast implant is going to enhance the size and shape of your breasts,* but most women are interested in a lot more than just looks. For the majority of my Denver patients, questions over whether an implant will feel real is one of the main concerns about choosing breast augmentation at all.
I let women examine both saline and silicone implants during our initial consultation so they can get a feel for their weight and texture. Silicone implants have a gel-like texture that more closely mimics the feel of natural breast tissue,* unlike the more liquid consistency of saline. However, just holding an implant isn’t a perfect indicator of how your final results will look and feel. For women who already have a fair amount of natural breast tissue, either type of implant can look and feel very natural.* The existing breasts add an extra layer of cushion over the implants, especially if they’re placed below the muscle as well.
For women with smaller breasts or women undergoing reconstruction surgery, saline implants are sometimes palpable under the skin, while silicone implants rarely are. Since many women who choose augmentation have smaller breasts, it makes sense that silicone ends up being the more frequent choice.
Remember, there is no right or wrong answer when it comes to implants. What’s important is choosing the implant that will help meet your personal goals.
